Now that you’ve learned the steps, its time to use the tools of recovery in your daily life. This is an ongoing process.
- CoDA Tools of Recovery: (Click links for more info)
- Meetings – A place where we learn about ourselves and discover a new freedom from our self-defeating behaviors.
- Fellowship – Through CoDA fellowship, we have a network of support to us throughout our recovery where we can be ourselves without seeking approval and validation, and without fear of judgement.
- Telephone – Codependency is a disease of isolation. We use our meeting phone list to call our fellow CoDA members as a means of support and communication between meetings.
- Sponsorship – We cannot recover alone.
- Abstinence – We abstain from obsessive, compulsive relationships.
- Anonymity – Anonymity means what we share with another CoDA member will be confidential and held in respect.
- Literature – Reading CoDA leterature between meetings helps aid our progress.
- Writing – Journaling, Step Work, Letters, and Affirmations: When we put our difficulties down on paper, we can see situations, and perhaps answers, more clearly.
- Service – We grow in recovery when we use our abilities to help reach other codependents who still suffer. Without CoDA service, our fellowship would cease to exist.
- Prayer & Meditation – We remember that codependency affects us on a deep spiritual level. Prayer and meditation helps us reconnect with our Higher Power and ourselves.
- The Serenity Prayer – Recite daily – Full prayer as explained in AA
- CoDA Recovery Prayer
- Affirmations – “I am the hero of my own life!” Affirmations help overcome old beliefs and empower us to CHOOSE new ones. A great source of affirmations is to use the recovery patterns specific to our own codependent behaviors.
- Recovery Activity Checklist – Helps with being diligent in recovery self-care. This checklist is a a daily reminder of the recovery tools you have available. Affirmations should really be added to this list.
- Step 10 Checklist – A daily suggested personal inventory (Word Doc)
- Communication & Recovery
- Dealing With Disagreements
- Establishing Boundaries in Recovery
- The Relationship Toolkit – Ideal for people in a committed relationship. Utilizes the 12 traditions as a basis for harmonious co-existence.
